Sri Lankan Book Promotion Tour

5th May - 20th June, 2003

R. B. Herath visited Sri Lanka in early May 2003 on a book promotion tour. He was accompanied by his wife, Hemamali, and youngest daughter, Lucky. During this period, he was contacted by the local media to talk about his latest book, Sri Lankan Ethnic Crisis: Towards a Resolution, and his suggestions for a lasting solution to the ethnic conflict in that country. Due to time constraints, he was only able to meet with a few of them. Time was also set aside for special talks at two universities and personal book presentations to people of interest. The following list describes these events in detail:

  1. Newspaper interviews:
    • Lankadeepa (May 12th),
    • Times (May 12th),
    • Daily Mirror (May 26th),
    • Silumina (May 27th),
    • Daily News (May 28th).
  2. Book reviews/interviews:
  3. TV interviews: Arunodaya Program/Swarnavahini (May 30th). R. B. Herath could not attend a number of other TV programs for which he was invited due to lack of time during this visit (Ayubowan/Rupavahini, Kinihiri/Swarnavahini, ITN).
  4. Book Presentations (pictures):
    • May 29th. R. B. Herath ceremonially presented a copy of the book to Dr. Karunasena Kodituwakku, Minister of Education, at the Martin Wickramasinghe Commemoration ceremony held at the National Library and Documentation Board, Independence Avenue, Colombo. Copies of the book had been earlier forwarded to Prime Minister Ranil Wickramasinghe, President Kumaratunge, and Minister H. L. Peiris.
  5. June 4th/5th. R. B. Herath gave special talks on the Sri Lankan ethnic conflict at the University of Peradeniya and University of Kelaniya. These talks were followed by open discussion sessions.
  6. June 14th. R. B. Herath paid a special visit to Reverend Sri Sidhdhartha Sumangala, the chief incumbent of Ridiviharaya and the Anunayaka Thero of the Malwatta Chapter, Malwatu Maha Viharaya, Kandy, and discussed with him the suggestions R. B. Herath has made for a lasting solution to the Sri Lankan ethnic conflict. The copies of the book have been previously forwarded to the Chief priests of both the Asgiriya and Malwatta Chapters.
